Martin Leber ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice on Mar. 9, 2026.Martin Leber passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, in Nokomis, Florida, with his beloved wife Mary Kay by his side, holding his hand. He was 86 years old.Born in Brooklyn, Martin met Mary Kay in Chicago. Together they built a life of 56 wonderful years, spending most of them in Newton, MA. He was the best husband she could have asked for. He was a devoted father to his children Beth, Matthew, and Rachel, and was the proudest grampa to his granddaughter Annarose.Martin honorably served his country in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. For 34 years, he ran a caring pediatric practice out of his home office in Newton, Massachusetts, where generations of families came to trust him deeply. For over 25 years, he also treated patients at the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center. In addition, he was a staff member at Newton Wellesley, Brigham and Women's, Children's and Mass General hospitals. Martin loved being a pediatrician - it was a calling, not merely a career - and he cared profoundly for every single patient who came through his door.Martin (or Marty, as so many called him) loved sharing stories: of Lillian, who took such loving care of him when he was a young boy; of his days as a paper boy; and of his time at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in San Diego. These were tales told with warmth, pride, and a sparkle in his eye.In his younger years, Marty enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping, grilling, backgammon, and lighting DIY fireworks. He had a particular fondness for root beer floats and honey glazed donuts. An avid reader his whole life, Marty grew skilled at holding a book open even after falling fast asleep. He was passionate about the news, the stock market, and the thrill of a great deal or coupon - occasionally arriving home with groceries nobody particularly wanted, simply because the price was right. He is now at peace with his parents, aunt, and brother, and all the beloved pets who were part of his life over the years.Celebration of LifeA Celebration of Life will be held in Nokomis, Florida, most likely in late April.Location and date to be announced. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
