Martin C. Wells

Martin C. Wells, 76, of Presque Isle, Michigan, passed away on February 21, 2026 after a long health battle due to complications caused by Agent Orange. Martin was born in Allen Park, Michigan to Lemuel Wells and Madeline Wells. He grew up with his sisters, Martha and Leatrice. As a young boy, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing.

In his high school years, he attended Columbia Military Academy in Columbia,Tennessee, graduating in 1967 as a 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer. Martin was co-captain of the Rifle team and a member of Hi-Y. Upon graduation, Martin joined the United States Army and spent the next three years serving as a driver/mechanic. He was a member of the 3rd Squadron, 4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry division, better known as MacKenzie’s Raiders. In 1971 he was discharged with an Honorable Character of Service.

Martin married Elizabeth Wells in September 1976 and the couple resided in Allen Park and later Almont, Michigan. Together they had two children, Nicholas and Joan. Martin enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and cooking and shared his passions with his family. Martin retired in 2011 from General Dynamics Land Systems at which time he was able to enjoy his love of the outdoors even more, spending much of his time perfecting his gardens or reading on the back porch.

Martin is preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Madeline, his wife Elizabeth, his sisters Martha (Wayne) Nelson and Leatrice Wells. He is survived by his children Nicholas (Jessica) Wells of Leonard, Michigan, and Joan (Jordan) Kiser of Merritt Island, Florida, and his three grandsons, Logan, Lukas, and Lincoln Kiser of Merritt Island, Florida.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked top reserve Martin’s love of nature and donations be made to Huron Pines - Alpena to help protect Northeast Michigan’s unique landscapes that Martin loved so much
