Martha Hodges ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Fairfield on Mar. 16, 2026.Martha Thornburg Hodges, age 83, of Fairfield, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Fairfield.Martha was born on March 19, 1942, in Piedmont, Alabama, to Horace Preston Ray and Ruth Kathleen Martin. She lived a life centered around faith, family, and service to others. Martha was a devoted seamstress who found joy in sewing and creating for those she loved. She also had a passion for gardening and spent many happy hours tending to her flower beds. A faithful and active member of her church, she taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for many years and cherished the fellowship and friendships she built there. On Saturdays, she could often be found cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, a team she loved dearly.Above all, Martha treasured time with her family and friends, leaving behind many cherished memories.She is survived by her son, Hugh Thornburg and wife Ruby; siblings Brenda Johns, and Judy Bratcher; grandchildren Amber Carpenter, Heather Embree, Aaron Thornburg, and Dakota Thornburg; great-grandchildren Tagan Thomas, Chandler Frith, Brayden Thornburg, Jaxson Thornburg, Rafe Carpenter, and Adeline Embree; nieces Irene Cannon and Joy Ferrell; and her beloved best friend, Maxine Tart.Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Winston Thornburg and James Hodges; siblings Kenneth Ray, Carl Hart, Ed Hart, Jr., and Sue Reynolds; and her daughter, Vicky Darlene Thornburg.Visitation with the family will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Round Prairie Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris George officiating. Burial will follow at Trinidad Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Bill Tart, Jay Tart, TJ Embree, Chandler Frith, Brayden Thornburg, and Jaxon Thornburg. Rafe Carpenter will serve as honorary pallbearer.Martha will be remembered for her kind heart, strong faith, and the love she shared with everyone around her.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
