Martha “Catherine” McFarland, 98, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in 1928 in Fort Valley, Virginia, Catherine was the daughter of the late Perry and Beatrice Richardson. She worked as a dietician for Service America, Winchester Medical Center, and the cafeteria at James Wood High School, retiring from the latter at the age of 82. She found quiet joy in tending her flower and vegetable garden and in collecting Jesus and angel figurines. A devoted wife, mother, and Christian, she cherished her faith and was a longtime attendee of Greenwood Baptist Church.

She was married to Linden Wesley McFarland on April 17, 1948; he preceded her in death in 2003. Catherine was also preceded by a daughter, Brenda Diane Sandy; her parents; and her siblings, Mildred Costello, Gladys Lichlighter, and Harold Richardson.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Cooper of Winchester, Virginia, and Linda Orndorff (Frank) of Cross Junction, Virginia; grandchildren, Wesley Cooper of Winchester, Bobbi Stevens (Jeff) of Gore, Betty Jenkins (Trampes) of Augusta, West Virginia, Melissa Hawkins of Winchester, and Amanda Marshall (Jason) of Winchester; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
