August 25, 1932— March 4, 2026
Knoxville, TN
Martha Maxine Hickey Szabo passed away at home on March 4, 2026. Born on August 25, 1932, she was fondly known to many as Momo. A graduate of Knoxville High School in 1950, she remained an avid University of Tennessee football fan throughout her life. She cherished her Saturday mornings at Long’s Drugstore, where she gathered with lifelong friends to talk about the happenings of Knoxville. Her warm smile could brighten any room, and she will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Carter Szabo; her parents, Mack and Leola Hickey; her brothers, Lee and Gregory Hickey; and her sister, Helen Hickey Knight.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Patricia Szabo Fowler (Tatum); her grandson, TJ Fowler (Kate); her granddaughter, Katherine Szabo Fowler of Houston, Texas; and her great-granddaughter, Alex Grace Fowler. Her family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Virginia Rogers, Susan Stephen, Lona Ford, and Covenant Health Hospice.
