Martha Moya Marois, known affectionately as Moya, passed away on March 6, 2026, in Grangeville, Idaho. Born on September 21, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Therese Nita Franks Laetsch and Kenneth Laetsch, she lived a life deeply connected to nature and the creative arts.
Moya was an avid animal lover who cherished the companionship of her pets. She found great joy in tending her gardens, creating homemade remedies and wholesome foods for others. A talented cook and baker, she delighted family and friends with her delicious meals. Her artistic spirit shone through many mediums, including painting, drawing, woodworking, and leatherwork. She had a lifelong passion for music, films, and all forms of art. Earlier in her career, she worked in a bakery and as an in-home healthcare CNA before becoming a devoted stay-at-home mother and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Therese and Kenneth, her husband Lester Leroy Marois, and her son Andrew Spychalski. Moya is survived by her eldest daughter Jessica M. Carlson Herring and husband Chad J. Herring, son James S. Spychalski and partner Jonathan E. Natale, youngest daughter Mykala R. Marois “Amy,” and grandchildren Tristan R. Herring and Rowan S. Herring, as well as her seven siblings: Nasima, KarinAnn, Colleen, Kevin, Becky, Dan, and Ian.
Her family will carry forward the memory of her gentle spirit and creative soul. Moya’s ashes will be scattered in the natural places she loved most, fulfilling her wish to find peace in the landscapes that brought her comfort and joy.
