Martha was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on September 12 1946, the second daughter of the late Benjamin and Mildred Gelormine. She was the widow of Richard Farrington, who predeceased her in 2003.Marti was a well-known figure in Milford. She lived nearly her whole life in the city, and in nearby Orange. After graduating from Jonathan Law High School in the Class of 1965, she went to work at Wildermere Public Library as an assistant librarian. She would work at Milford Public Libraries throughout her long career. After initially retiring in 2006, she worked at other area libraries, spending most of her time at Black Rock Library in Bridgeport. She had a lifelong love of literature and reading.Marti and Rich were passionate about dogs and landscape photography. The Farringtons won prizes for their training of Old English Sheepdogs, but were also known for training Australian Shepherds. Their photography of Milford and other Shoreline communities were regularly presented at local shows and photo clubs. They also travelled extensively around New England and the East Coast, often with their dogs, in search of new landscapes to capture.Marti's love of animals and nature was sustained long after Rich's passing. She continued to support wildlife causes throughout her life.After finally retiring from her career as a librarian, Marti volunteered regularly at the Milford Senior Center. She was honoured by the centre in 2013 for her commitment to public service.Above all, Marti was a devoted wife, daughter and sister. She provided love and advocacy for her father, husband, and sisters Linda and Dolores, during their illnesses, and sadly predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her brother, Benjamin Jr.Marti is survived by her niece, Michelle Scott, and nephew Louis Wahl, his wife Paula Goodman, and their children Zack, Olivia and Kate.We would like to thank Diane and the aides at Family Matters Home Care LLC who have looked after and supported Marti for many years, ensuring her final years were safe and comfortable.A memorial service will be held for Marti sometime this Spring.
