Marshall Raser, born on August 28, 1928, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully. The son of Russian immigrants Joseph and Rose Raser, he embodied the American dream through a life marked by dedication, service, and deep community ties. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Marian Raser, and a loving father to his only son and business partner, Barton Raser. Marshall cherished his role as grandfather to Georgia and Charlie Raser, who brought him great joy.
A graduate of Boston English High School and Northeastern University at the age of 17, Marshall served honorably as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1962, he and his late brothers Nate and Max purchased Carr Hardware & Supply Co., Inc., where he served as president. His leadership left a lasting mark on the Berkshire business community. He was a past board member of the Central Berkshire Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of Downtown Pittsfield, Inc., and recipient of the Downtown Person of the Year award.
A lifelong Rotarian, Marshall served as president of the Pittsfield Rotary Club and as Assistant District Governor. He was honored with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his service. For 40 years, he and Marian volunteered with Freedom Guide Dogs, boarding, training, placing, and fundraising for guide dogs for the blind. He also served on the boards of the Lake Onota Preservation Association and the Pittsfield Economic Development Center, along with many other local organizations. A longtime member of Knesset Israel Synagogue, his faith and commitment to community remained central throughout his life.
He is survived by his son Barton Raser and grandchildren Georgia and Charlie Raser.
