Marshall R. Zugehar

January 9, 1932 March 5, 2026

Rochester, NY

Marshall R. Zugehar, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. Born in Chicago, Illinois on January 9, 1932, Marshall lived a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and a generous spirit.

He graduated from Taft High School in Chicago in 1950, where he excelled as an athlete in football and baseball. His high school football team competed in the Chicago public school championship at Soldier Field. Following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War from June 1950 to January 1955. While stationed in Geneva, New York, he made weekend trips to Rochester, where he met Mary, who became the love of his life.

Family was at the heart of everything for Marshall. He was predeceased by his parents, Marshall and Victoria Zugehar. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Mary (Marrocco) Zugehar; his children, Glenn (Dr. Becky Miller) Zugehar, Alan (Peggy) Zugehar, and Dawn Gershenfeld (Brian Gauthier); his grandchildren, Zachary Gershenfeld, Tori (Peter Weir) Zugehar, Rachel Gershenfeld, and Adrian Zugehar; his brother, Robert Zugehar; and many extended family members and friends.

Marshall built a meaningful career at Bausch and Lomb. Earlier, he worked with General Dynamics as part of the aerospace program in the early 1960s, which took him and his family to Merritt Island, Florida as a contractor for NASA. He found great joy in gardening, home repairs, reading books on American history, and even trying his hand at painting for a time. He gave generously of his time to Salisbury University, Poplar Hill Mansion, Saint Francis de Sales Church, and the Adult Education Center in Salisbury, Maryland, believing that small acts of service could make a lasting difference. Those who knew him experienced that belief through his thoughtful notes, shared meals, and quiet kindnesses.
