Mark S. Metry

Mark Saleem Metry, age 72, of Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on August 13, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Gilbert and Eva Metry, Mark lived a life defined by devotion to his family, a deep commitment to the law, and an enduring warmth that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A graduate of Central Michigan University and the Detroit College of Law, now known as Michigan State University College of Law, Mark began his legal career under the guidance of his father, Gilbert Metry, and his uncle Frederick Metry at the Law Firm of Metry, Metry, and Sanom. The firm later became Metry and Metry, growing to include his brother, Judge Dean Metry, his cousin Judge Theodore Metry, and most recently his son Christopher Metry. For over 40 years, Mark maintained a successful private practice specializing in criminal defense litigation while serving with distinction as a long-standing magistrate of the 40th District Court in Saint Clair Shores. A proud member of the State Bar of Michigan and several local bar associations, he earned a reputation for integrity, dedication, and genuine concern for those he represented. He took special pride in mentoring young attorneys, including his cousins Theodore Metry, Eli Muawad, and Brian Muawad, as well as his son Christopher.

On February 14, 1981, Mark married the love of his life, Kyle Metry. Together they created a home filled with laughter, lasting memories, and enduring love. A devoted family man, Mark was actively involved in his sons’ lives, coaching them in baseball and basketball and sharing his boundless enthusiasm for Detroit sports. He attended countless games, and his impressive collection of autographs and sports memorabilia became a cherished feature of the Metry home.

Beyond the courtroom, Mark embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved music and was a frequent concertgoer, often attending performances with Kyle and their friends. He was a regular patron of the Fisher Theatre and the Detroit Opera House, and he and Kyle shared a love of travel, particularly to warm-weather destinations such as Florida and St. Thomas.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Kyle Metry; his sons, Sean (Julie Paavola) Metry and Christopher (Josie) Metry; his granddaughter Elizabeth; his brother, Dean Metry; his sister, Lori (Graeme) Kenny; and his niece Natalie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Eva Metry, as well as many treasured aunts and uncles.
