Mark E. Hartzell

Mark E. Hartzell, age 72, of Blissfield, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, March 9, 2026. A longtime resident of the area, Mark was known by family and friends alike as a good and kind man who treated everyone with warmth and respect.

He spent his working years selling farm equipment, a career that perfectly suited his lifelong love of farming, tractors, and classic cars. Mark enjoyed simple pleasures—long drives in the country or around Devil’s Lake, good food, and the company of those he cared about. An avid vegetable gardener, he took great delight in his collectible toy tractors and in tending to the squirrels and birds that visited his backyard. He had a special affection for animals, particularly his grand-dog Lou, his daughter’s cats, and his beloved cat Spike, whom he treated like a best friend.

Mark cherished visits from his five-year-old grandson, Sam, always greeting him with a treat or surprise simply to see him smile. His gentle sense of humor could brighten any room, and he never sought recognition for himself. Instead, he found joy in quietly caring for others, offering help to anyone who needed it without expecting anything in return.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue through his children and grandchildren. In keeping with his love for animals, donations may be made to the Lenawee Humane Society in honor of his cat, Spike.
