Mark Daniel Horton, age 57, of Kingsport, passed away on March 13, 2026, after a brief illness. He retired as an audiovisual technician after working with a number of television, music, and movie production companies. In the course of his career, he contributed to well-known films including Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire alongside Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, as well as Candyman. Over the years he formed lasting friendships with many artists, singers, and actors.
Mark was an avid Star Wars fan, a creative writer, and a devoted companion to his beloved Boston Terriers. A visionary with a deep sense of wanderlust, he will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his gift for maintaining meaningful relationships, his willingness to love without judgment, and his boundless capacity for forgiveness.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Daniel E. and Marie Blackburn, paternal grandparents George W. and Lelia Horton, brother-in-law Tim Ryan, and special friend and roommate Billy R. Kennedy. Survivors include his mother, Gloria (Sonny) Culver, father George W. Horton, sisters Laura (Allen) Evans and Susan Ryan, all of Rogersville, niece Leah Ryan, and nephew Colin Ryan.
