Marjorie Straw ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home on Mar. 17, 2026.PITTSBURG – Marjorie H. Straw, 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at her home on Thursday evening, March 12, 2026, after a long period of declining health, and with her family by her side. She was born at home in Pittsburg on Jan. 24, 1938, a daughter to the late Ralph and Ruth (Osgoode) Huggins. Marjorie attended school in Pittsburg, one of eight in her class, and was a 1957 graduate of Pittsburg High School. On Oct. 18, 1958, she married Bernard A. Straw. They often spoke about the dances they attended at Tall Timbers and the Grange. They carried their love of music and dancing into their later years, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2023.Marjorie first entered the work force as a waitress and cleaning cabins during her high school years at the Tall Timber Lodge & Cabins, and later at The Glen. She was also employed by Beecher Falls Division of Ethan Allen for a few years. She also provided transportation to school for the Harris children with her personal vehicle and would often be seen behind the counter serving patrons of the Trading Post and the General Store.Marjorie served the Town of Pittsburg as an Auditor from 1974 to 1985, and a Supervisor of the Checklist from 1978 to 2014. She was also a member of the Pittsburg Planning Board from 2013 to 2014.In 1974, Marjorie enrolled in an EMT class after completing 81 hours of required training. On May 2, 1975, she received her EMT certification, NH license number 0097. This began a lifetime of dedication to emergency services, joining the Pittsburg Ambulance Corps which, at the time, had as its first ambulance "a retired Jenkins hearse." She was a founding member of the corps, always professional and compassionate, with attention to detail. She never once allowed her license to lapse, and also served as Treasurer for the organization. Those in "scanner world' would often hear her call number 382 over the air. Marjorie was also employed at UCVH as an EMT and would often receive calls to go and sit with patients offering comfort when needed.Marjorie could often be seen on Old Home Day, walking with the Ambulance Corps and the Pittsburg Fire & Rescue team each year, or driving the ambulance in the parade. She would also work in the concession stand at Murphy Dam during the day or at night at the Old Home Day dance held at Pittsburg School. On June 1, 2002, she received a "Distinguished Service Award" at the NH Knights of Columbus North Country Public Service Award Banquet for her years of service and dedication. With over 35 years of service as an EMT she then joined the staff at the Coös County Nursing Hospital as a unit aid where, after completing required certification, worked as an LNA from 2002 to 2016, providing attentive personalized care to the residents.Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her family, riding the back roads, fishing, picnics, and researching Huggins family genealogy. She traveled to Florida and Pennsylvania by car, and flew to Nashville with relatives. Her hobbies consisted of bird watching, berry picking, knitting mittens, baby sets and crocheted sweaters. She had a beautiful flower garden and many people would stop and ask to take photos of them. She took great pride in offering pieces of her flowers to other garden enthusiasts. Loving all things nature led her to photography, and she was known to capture spectacular shots of landscapes and animals.Marjorie is survived by her children, Jhody S.
