Marjorie, (Marge) Caufield, age 93, died on March 15 2026 in Sun City, Arizona. The second youngest of nine children, Marjorie was born on October 13, 1932, in Kenmare, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Gerhard (Jack) and Odilia (Schumacher) Theusch. She was the last surviving member of that family. Marjorie graduated from Kenmare, High School I in 1950. She married Rodney Caufield on January 6, 1951. They had six children. Marjorie knew how to work hard and instilled this work ethic in her children. Starting at age 13, Marjorie began her work career as a waitress at the Kenmare Hotel. In 1948, Marge started working for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. Her time there was interrupted with family obligations. Later, she resumed work at Bell, (AT & T) as a coin collector, which she continued until her retirement, in March,1986. Minot, ND, to Fargo, ND; Council Bluffs, Iowa; Fort Wingate, New Mexico; and Kivalina, Alaska. Marge and Rod purchased a home in Arizona, while living in Alaska. They would become reverse snow birds, living in Arizona in the summer and Alaska in the winter. Rare birds for sure! During retirement, Marge and Rod commuted from their home in Arizona to their summer home at the Fish and Camp Resort on Lake Sakakawea, near Parshall, ND, where they enjoyed visiting relatives and fishing for Walleye.
Marjorie’s was a devout Catholic who was involved in Church everywhere she lived. She loved to play bridge and entertain friends. Marge loved to spend her time in the evening, embroidering dish towels and crocheting. Over her life, Marjorie spent many hours gardening and canning pickles and fruit sauces. She was a very good cook who loved to bake, but it was her signature homemade bread and buns that everyone remembers. Not a day went by without homemade toast for breakfast at the Caufield residence.
