Marita Alford Phillips passed away peacefully at her home in Pontotoc, Mississippi, on March 12, 2026. She was 82. Born on October 24, 1943, in Urania, Louisiana, to the late Rev. H.O. Alford and Annie Laverne Whatley Alford, Marita lived a life marked by her loving spirit and joyful presence.

She embraced each day with passion, devoting herself fully to her family, her work, and the many hobbies that brought her delight. She is survived by her two children, Marita Ann Allen (Danny) and Arthur Harrell Phillips (Tamitha); her siblings Gwen Nickens, Rhoda Spence, Angie May (Randy), Joyce Laverne Neal (David), Ovead Alford (Charlotte), Fred Alford (Liz), Garry Alford (Cynthia), and David Alford (Denise); nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and the anticipated arrivals of another great-grandchild and her first great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Phillips, her sister Deborah Alford, and her brother Rev. Sidney Alford.

Marita retired as an inspector for Piper Impact, where her diligence and positive attitude earned the respect of her colleagues. A founding member of The Church of Acts, she served faithfully as church secretary for a time. She possessed a renowned green thumb and took special delight in flowers, butterflies, and animals. Her legendary ability to find four-leaf clovers brought smiles to family and friends, while her enthusiasm for yard sales and thrift stores reflected her vibrant individuality. She was known for her colorful clothing and flip-flops, often matching with her husband, spreading brightness and cheer wherever she went.

Above all, Marita’s warm and outgoing heart drew people to her. Her life was a genuine expression of love and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
