Marilyn Quinn Vieregge

December 16, 1950 March 7, 2026

Lubbock, TX

Marilyn Vieregge, 75, of Lubbock, died peacefully at home on March 7, 2026.

Born December 16, 1950, in Plainview to John McDonough and Barbara (Mickey) McDonough, Marilyn graduated from Plainview High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education from Lubbock Christian College in 1973. She devoted her career to teaching and education, first instructing high school English and Political Science in Alvin and at Abernathy High School, then serving at the Lubbock Education Service Center for 33 years from 1985 to 2018. In recognition of her work with the Texas Migrant Education Program, she received the AMET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and the David Cobb Service Award in 2018.

Marilyn cherished time with her children, Mandy and Quentin, always eager to know when her “chickens” were home. She loved talking with them about current events, movies, television shows, and religion, and she delighted in simple adventures—whether grabbing a Coke at Taco Villa, shopping at Kohl’s, or seeing a movie. She enjoyed “beeboppin” around town with Mandy, helping Quentin with his writing, and maintaining family traditions of eating out together. The four of them shared many evenings watching “Only Murders in the Building.”

She remained close to her parents and siblings, proud to be a McDonough. Marilyn loved the color red, carefully selecting the perfect shade for her purses, clothes, and eyeglasses, and she held a lifelong devotion to Elvis. A dedicated wife, she lovingly cared for her husband Terry through his health challenges. Her deep faith sustained her, especially through her favorite Bible verses, John 14:2 and Isaiah 40:31, and her worship at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry, her parents, and her brother, Mike McDonough. Survivors include her daughter, Amanda “Mandy” of Lubbock; son, Quentin of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; brothers, Doug of Plainview and Mitchell of Hereford; and sister, Michelle of Silverton. Marilyn will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who loved her.
