Marilyn Hayda
January 6, 1936— March 6, 2026
Magna, UT
Marilyn Hayda, 90, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at her home in Magna, Utah, surrounded by her family.
Born on January 6, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Julian Sadler and Mary Worthington Sadler, Marilyn grew up with a close circle of friends who remained central to her life. Together they cruised Main Street in Magna, visited the Great Salt Lake, and later formed a ladies’ bowling league that brought them years of laughter. These friendships endured for decades, with the group gathering for monthly lunches until recently. Her dearest friend Nette Cobbely, the last surviving member of that circle and a friend for 85 years, spent a cherished afternoon with Marilyn on March 5, reminiscing together.
Marilyn was known above all as a devoted caretaker. She and her husband, William “Bill” Hayda, whom she married on January 12, 1955, at the Copper Club in Magna, opened their home to help raise many family members’ children. She spent countless hours supporting her good friend Bernice Cobbely through her battle with cancer, cared for Bill through multiple surgeries, looked after her aging parents, and tended to her mother-in-law, Teresa Hayda. Most importantly, she remained a steadfast presence in the lives of her children, never missing their activities or moments of need.
She is survived by her three sons, William Scott Hayda, Allen Craig Hayda, and Richard (Desi) Hayda; her son-in-law, Guy (Kathy) Smith; her sister-in-law, Anne Hayda Herrington, who was much more like a sister; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Kathy Hayda Smith; her brother, Jay Sadler; her in-laws, Frank and Teresa Hayda; and her grandson, Steven Wayne Larsen.
