April 6, 1927— March 9, 2026
Rochester, NY
Marilyn Hamme, born Marilyn Funk on April 6, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, to Edward and Julia Funk, passed away peacefully at home with loved ones present on March 9, 2026, at the age of 98.
She grew up in Chicago with her parents and brother Edward, graduating from high school in 1945. Marilyn married Stephen Heckert, with whom she had two children, Richard and Nancy. The family moved to Fairport, New York, in the mid-1960s. After Stephen’s death in 1980, she married Roy D. Hamme, a longtime family friend from Rush, New York, in 1985.
Marilyn worked for many years in the offices of the Fairport Central School District and was a longtime member of the local Catholic diocese. An avid and accomplished bridge player, she competed in tournaments across New York State and achieved the rank of Grand Life Master. She remained active throughout her life, enjoying dancing, golf in her younger years, hiking along the canal and in local parks, and traveling through the mid-Atlantic and New England regions with Roy and later with friends. She had a lifelong love of learning and exploring new places.
Above all, Marilyn cherished time with her family. She was a loving and supportive mother to her children and extended that same warmth and presence to her grandchildren, always attending sporting events, milestones, and family gatherings. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Heckert, daughter-in-law Ruth Anna Heckert, grandchildren Nicole Meers, Bill Heckert, Heidi Heckert, and Eric Heckert, as well as Roy E. Hamme, Carol Whitman, Lynn and Henry Duran, Susan and David Nisenbaum, Nancy and Michael Lacy, Karen Hamme and Len Marsh, Janice and Tim Comfort, fourteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted mother, a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, and a cherished friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
