Marilyn Jacobs ObituaryPublished by Legacy on Mar. 7, 2026.Marilyn Ann Jacobs was born Marilyn Ann Gill on November 10, 1934.She died on March 6, 2026, at the age of 91.She married Merrill "Pike" Jacobs, Jr, on June 21, 1952, a few months shy of her 18th birthday. They had nearly 53 years together before his death in 2005. They had 6 children: Merrill Jacobs, III, deceased, John Mitchell Jacobs, 70, Richard Lee Jacobs, 69, Russell Jacobs, 67, Rebecca Ann Qualls, deceased, and Theresa Lynn Matz, 61.Marilyn was first and foremost a wife to her beloved Pike, and a devoted mother to her children. Born and raised in Memphis, Marilyn and her family lived in Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, and Jonesboro, before finally returning to Memphis to stay. Though her most successful career was raising her family, she was also a talented medical transcriptionist, so much so that the company allowed her to take a typewriter and headphones home to work and raise her family. She was proud of her acquired knowledge of medical terminology, and loved to talk shop with her doctors, surgeons, and nurses, even toward the end of her life. She mostly loved working side-by-side with her husband, whether it was as his secretary at Merrill Jacobs, Maintenance, or as his partner at Sycamore Cleaners, the first of many neighborhood drycleaners they owned and operated together. The success of their business enabled them to travel the world together, and she loved every minute of it. They retired in 1991, living in Daytona Beach, Florida, her favorite place in the whole world. She enjoyed 13 years of retirement with her husband before his failing health forced their return to Memphis. After his death, Marilyn devoted her life to her 14 grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. She continued her love for golf as well, belonging to two ladies' groups in Memphis and Bartlett. She also enjoyed volunteering at Baptist Hospital, as well as working for her son, Russell, at his fire restoration business. While she excelled at most everything she did, she would say her biggest accomplishment was her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite thing to say was, "What a wonderful family I have!"Though we mourn the loss of Marilyn, her family honors her remarkable life, cherishes her memory, and celebrates her reunion with Pike, Little Pike and Becky.
