Marilyn A. Loeffler

Marilyn A. Loeffler

April 30, 1942 March 10, 2026

Akron, OH

Marilyn Ann Loeffler, 83, of Akron, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at The Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn.

Born on April 30, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Irene and Lawrence Smith, Marilyn graduated from Sandusky St. Mary High School in 1960 and earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Notre Dame College in Cleveland in 1964. She devoted her career to teaching high school mathematics, first at Copley High School in the 1960s and later at Our Lady of the Elms High School from 1985 to 2002, where she served as head of the math department for many years. Known for making a challenging subject more approachable and even enjoyable, she retired from teaching when her husband Ron retired from Goodyear, honoring their shared understanding that she would not continue working without him.

Marilyn found joy in golf, bridge, sewing, and crafting, and friends were accustomed to discovering golf tees, sewing needles, or glitter scattered in her car or around the house. She served as past president of the Christ Child Society of Akron and remained deeply involved for more than 50 years, finding fulfillment in helping local children and contributing her artistic talents to the organization’s annual fall boutique. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the Merriman Hills Garden Club, several golf leagues, and the parishes of Saint Vincent and Saint Hilary.

Kind yet tough, outspoken and generous, Marilyn was someone who always let you know where you stood, and she was usually right. She was a strong, supportive role model and enthusiastic cheerleader for her daughter and granddaughters, and a true friend to many throughout the Akron area.

She was predeceased in 2010 by her husband and high school sweetheart, Ronald Loeffler, whom she married on August 21, 1965. In their 44 years together, Ron and Marilyn formed an active and social couple whose combined presence was even greater than their already remarkable individual strengths.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Lisa Loeffler Maddux and son-in-law Jason Maddux of Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania; granddaughters Veronica of Boiling Springs and Olivia of Helsinki, Finland; her sister Kathleen (Joseph) Sanderson of Monroe, Michigan; niece Jennifer (Michael) Fish of Fairfax, Virginia; nephew Joel (Rachel) Sanderson of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and many other family members and friends.
