Marietta Bernadine Bellingtier

Fort Dodge, IA

Marietta Bernadine Bellingtier, a cherished member of the Fort Dodge community, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 84. Surrounded by her loving family, Marietta’s departure marks the close of a life defined by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear.

Born Marietta Bernadine Schmitz on August 9, 1941, in Portsmouth, Iowa, she was raised and educated in Panama. A proud graduate of St. Mary’s High School class of 1959, she went on to complete her training at Mercy Hospital Radiology in 1961. For 41 years, she provided compassionate care to patients in the Radiology-Mammography Department at Trinity Regional Hospital before retiring in 2002.

In 1963, Marietta married Albert Bellingtier, beginning a loving partnership of 63 years. Together they raised their family in Fort Dodge. Known affectionately as “Boog,” she found quiet joy in watching The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Grit television, attending daily Mass on EWTN with Al, reading, playing cards, and spending cherished summers at the family cabin. A woman of gentle spirit and deep faith, she was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and gave generously of her time to the Monican Mothers, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the National Association of Letter Carriers Auxiliary 213.

Marietta is lovingly remembered by her husband, Albert of Fort Dodge; their children, Douglas (Deborah) Bellingtier of Fort Dodge, Anna (Dale) Mesman of Emery, South Dakota, Mary (Daniel) Vrieze of Eyota, Minnesota, and Matthew (Jennifer) Bellingtier of Jena, Germany; grandchildren Joseph (Shayna) Bellingtier, Zachery Bellingtier, Caitlin (Joshua Stoneberg) Bellingtier, Mercedes Mesman, Davis Bellingtier, and Kirby Bellingtier; and great-grandchildren Elle Bellingtier and Waylon Bellingtier. She is also survived by her sisters Marleen Nabity of Stockton, Missouri, Kathleen Leinen of Panora, Elizabeth Doyle of Council Bluffs, and Therese Ratigan of Council Bluffs, as well as her brothers Robert (Susan) Schmitz of Panama and Michael (Vickie) Schmitz of Defiance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Laurina (Stracke) Schmitz, and brothers-in-law Lewis Nabity, Orville Leinen, Robert Doyle, and Michael Ratigan.

Her kindness, devotion, and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
