Marie R. McMyne

1928 — 2026

Carbondale, PA

Marie R. McMyne, 97, of Carbondale, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a family who cherished her deeply. Born in Carbondale to the late Andrew and Lucy Jackovitz Rushen, she graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School with the Class of 1946. She worked in several garment factories before marrying John J. McMyne on February 9, 1952. Together they shared 28 years of marriage until his passing in 1980. Marie helped her husband at McMyne’s Market and later worked at Waymart Knitwear. A lifelong resident of Carbondale, she lived each day with dignity, grace, and quiet pride.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in family. She and John created a warm and loving home filled with happy times shared with relatives and friends. She had a special talent for making every holiday and celebration memorable through her homemade cabbage rolls, pierogies, banana bread, pagash, and signature cookies. Her gentle, caring nature and the time she spent with her family left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

A devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Church, now part of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Marie began each day watching the 12:10 Mass on CTV and praying the rosary. Her own rosary was never far from her hands, especially at bedtime, and she kept hundreds of prayers and prayer cards close by. Until recent months, she also looked forward each evening to playing the daily lottery at 7 p.m.

Marie is survived by her six children: sons Joseph (Kathy) McMyne of Fell Township and Gerald (Jeanne) McMyne of Carbondale; daughters Mary Ann C. McMyne of Carbondale, Jean Marie (Rich) Bomba of Rochester, New York, Tisha (Jamie) Alderiso of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and Karen (Fred) Mendicino of Potomac Falls, Virginia; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with another granddaughter expected soon; as well as nieces, nephews, and special cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband John, her sisters Alice Flanagan and Ann Osborne, and her brothers-in-law Patrick Flanagan and Francis Osborne.
