Marie Chisholm ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Hart & Bruce Funeral Home - Watertown on Mar. 17, 2026.With broken hearts we share the passing of our Matriarch, Marie Chisholm on March 16, 2026.Marie Vivian Call Chisholm was born on April 20, 1936, in Evans Mills, NY to William and Cecelia Lawton Call. In 1953, she graduated from the Evans Mills High School as the Salutatorian while attending school mornings only. Her afternoons were spent taking care of her mom and baby sisters. That would end up being a huge part of who she was; always taking care of everyone. After graduation, she went to work at the National Bank which later became Key Bank.Marie married Richard (Dick) Chisholm on May 10, 1958. They would later divorce. While being a stay-at-home Mom for many years, Marie was a foster parent to newborn babies. They would come straight from the hospital and stay until they were adopted. She returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for MPS / Roe and eventually Roe Farm Service. She worked in Great Bend, Watertown, Limerick, and ended her career in Philadelphia as the Secretary/Treasurer of the corporation. Marie retired in 2000 after 33 years. For many years Marie was a hostess for the Miss New York State pageant. With her experience as a hostess, she assisted her daughter, Kathy, with the Miss Ireland Scholarship Pageant, a part of the North Country Goes Green Irish Festival. She was also a member of the Cardinal Sinners Red Hat Society and a volunteer for the Michael J Cerroni 5K run. Marie was also a communicant of St. Rita's Church in Deferiet, before moving to Watertown and joining Holy Family Church. Marie enjoyed the chaos of having family around, but also spending one-on-one time with her children and grands. Her hobbies consisted of sitting outside reading a good book and also doing word search books and puzzles. She enjoyed traveling and if you mentioned going on a road trip, she was ready to go. One very special vacation was in April 2023, a week before her 87th birthday. Thanks to granddaughter Hannah and her husband Logan, she had the opportunity to attend the annual White House Egg Roll, followed by an inside tour of the White House. Due to her health, she was in a wheelchair. This actually was a small blessing as she got to see parts of the White House that the general public does not. In years past, she also enjoyed camping.Marie is survived by her 4 children: Kathy (Ron) Crowell, N. Syracuse; Colleen Van Pelt, South Carolina; Richard "Butch" (Julie) Chisholm, Carthage; and Sharon Chisholm, South Carolina; as well as 8 grandchildren, Jaime, Jill, Stephanie, Kelli, Alicia, Marissa, Joshua, and Hannah, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great-grandchild.Marie is also survived by her sisters: Veronica Leuze, Janet (Philip) Hughes, Bernadette Call, and Mary (John) Kerr, along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, along with her brothers Gerald and Glenn, her beloved sister-in-law Bonnie Call, brother-in-law Norman Leuze, and her grandson Cody Miterko.Per Marie's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Mass will be said in her name at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Evans Mills on April 19, 2026 at 8am. Private burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Evans Mills. The family would like to say a special thank you to Kelly, Cherie and Darrell for the amazing care and love given to Mom in the last few months. You ladies are the best. Office manager "Stephy", thanks for everything you did for her in the last 5 ½ years.
