Marie B. Ponzillo

Marie (Battista) Ponzillo, 88, of Southington, Connecticut and formerly of Englewood, Florida, passed away on March 13, 2026. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born on January 16, 1938 in New Haven, Connecticut, Marie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Sheridan) Battista. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven and remained a longtime member of St. Thomas Church in Southington. Marie spent her career in various administrative roles with the State of Connecticut. After retiring, she and her husband Tony moved to Englewood, Florida, where they enjoyed more than twenty years together. Her grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart, and she cherished them deeply.

Marie is survived by her sons, Joseph Gargano and his wife Beverly of East Haven, Connecticut, and Jeff Gargano and his wife Linda of Bristol, as well as her stepson Ronald Ponzillo of Waterbury. She leaves five cherished grandchildren, Joseph Gargano Jr., Danae Serio (Anthony), Paul Gargano (Ryan), Matthew Gargano (Whitney), and Michael Gargano (Janet), and three great-grandchildren, Mia, Anthony Jr., and Enzo. She was predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Gargano, her second husband, Anthony Ponzillo, and all of her siblings: Joseph “Buddy” Battista (Patricia), James Battista (Shirley), Arthur Battista (Joyce), Almond “Sonny” Provenzo (Marion), and Claire “Dolly” Voos (Carl).
