Born on October 28, 1940, in Eatonton, Georgia, Marie was a daughter of the late Jesse and Minnie Mashburn.She dedicated her life to service both as a nurse and through her commitment to the US Navy Reserves. Her career in nursing was marked by a compassionate spirit and an enduring dedication to patient care.Marie was a voracious reader and continuously sought to further her education to enhance her nursing skills. Her service in the Navy Reserves reflected her strong sense of duty and her love for her country.She is survived by her sister, Faye Ben-Shabat, and brother, Cecil Mashburn.Marie was predeceased by her husband, King George Horton; her parents; and her brothers, Odise, William, and Frederick Mashburn.Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at View Church Cemetery in Boiling Springs, South Carolina with Rev. Tim Worthy officiating. A visitation will be from 11:00AM to 12:00PM on the same day at the Eggers Funeral Home Chapel, Boiling Springs.
