Marianne Manley late of Joliet, Illinois died Thursday, March 5th, 2026. Born December 10, 1936, Joliet, Illinois to Mary (Buchar) and William Busse. She is survived by her husband Thomas A. Manley and children Sarah (Julian) Manley Adcock, London, England; Susan (Dannie) Sammons, Kernersville, North Carolina; and William (Nina Horrigan) Manley, Kernersville, North Carolina. Six grandchildren, Isabelle, William and Henry Adcock; Katherine and Gabriel Sammons; Bridget Manley; sister-in-law Kathleen Thompson Busse; nephews Matthew, Gregory, Donnie and Christopher Busse, and nieces Beth Ann Roark, Amy Busse, and Katherine Lund. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Raymond and William, and his wife Nancy Lukanich Busse and nephew Michael Busse. Marianne retired from St. Joseph College of Nursing (now the University of St. Francis Leach College of Nursing), where she was a member of the faculty for 38 years as an instructor, Assistant Director of the Diploma program, and Dean of Student Service for the College of Nursing. She was a graduate of St. Francis Academy (1954), St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing (1957), and earned her Bachelor (1964) and Master (1969), in nursing from DePaul University, including the Illinois Council of Diploma Schools of Nursing, National League for Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society. Named Who's Who in American Nursing. She was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Joliet, Illinois, where she coordinated the St. John's food pantry for over 18 years and afterwards continued to volunteer. She served on a number of parish committees and was a member of the St. John's adult choir and Resurrection choir. After moving to North Carolina, Marianne and Thomas were parishioners of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kernersville. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the University of St. Francis Leach College of Nursing or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Joliet, Illinois would be appreciated. The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 1:00PM-2:00PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow beginning at 2:00PM with Father Noah Carter officiating.
