Marianna Carney ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson-Becker Funeral Home - Solomon on Mar. 14, 2026.Marianna Carney, 68, passed away on March 13, 2026 surrounded by family after a two year battle with bile duct cancer. She was born on January 31, 1958 to Clyde and Erabell (Johnson) Venneberg.Marianna spent her entire life in her beloved community of Solomon, Kansas; graduating as valedictorian of the Solomon High School Class of '76. She then attended Kansas State University for 3 years, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Marymount College, Salina, Kansas. On September 21, 1985, Marianna was united in marriage with Ken Alan Carney, at the Solomon United Methodist Church. Their union blessed them with three beautiful daughters: Caitlin (Nick) Glassman, Connor (Jordan) Boyd, and Carson (Trey) Jackson.Marianna was a member of the Solomon United Methodist Church, serving on the Council and Board of Trustees, as Choir Director, Keyboardist, Sunday School pianist, and as church secretary for approximately 39 years. She was also a member of the Fraternity Chapter of the OES, a Girl Scout Leader for a few years and a member of the High School Site Council at its origin. Marianna was also a 4-H mom and an avid bleacher filler for all her girls', nephews' and grandchildrens' games, track and cross country meets.Marianna started working at B-Mart Hardware Store at age 12. After college she worked for a few years in the offices of the truckstop in Solomon, and then following in her mother's footsteps, she began her career with the Solomon State Bank in April of 1996. After nearly thirty years with her special Bank family, she retired as an Executive Assistant and VP of Human Resources.Music played a central role in Marianna's life. She sang at numerous funerals, starting at age 12 singing duets with her mother, and sang at her first wedding solo at age 14. Marianna also enjoyed playing the piano/keyboard and especially loved dancing with her favorite dance partner, her husband Ken.Marianna is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Ken, her daughters and son-in-laws, her grandchildren: Talyn Boyd, Carter Ann Carney-Sprouse, Cooper Boyd, Brinley Swenson, Archie Boyd, Landry Jackson, Leeson Glassman, Joey Boyd and Lynden Glassman; mother-in-law, numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M., Friday, March 20, 2026 at the Solomon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 2026 at the Solomon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rebecca Stredney presiding. Burial will follow at the Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon. Memorials may be made to the Solomon Scholarship Foundation or to Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County, Kansas.
