July 21, 1934— March 8, 2026
Boston, MA
Marian Betty Seay, born July 21, 1934, in Blakely, Georgia, was the first of five children born to Howard and Mary Seay. A dedicated student who excelled in her studies, she often served as a substitute teacher for younger grades while still in school. After graduating from Washington High School, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in business from Simmons College and began a long career with John Hancock Insurance Company.
Upon arriving in Boston, Marian joined Columbus Avenue A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Pastor James C. Brown. She remained a devoted and active member of her beloved church for the rest of her life, serving in the combined choir, on the Women’s Usher Board, and on numerous local and national committees. For many years she faithfully served as church secretary. Marian’s deep love for God, her family, and her church family was evident in her constant willingness to help and serve others.
She was preceded in death by her father, Howard W. Seay, her mother, Mary F. Seay, her brother Henry R. Seay, her sister-in-law JoAnne W. Seay, and her sister Grace L. Seay.
Marian is survived by her brother Emory W. Seay, her sister Mary (Haywood) Harvey, and her sister-in-law Edna M. Seay, along with eight nieces and nephews—Cheryl Harvey, Adrienne (Ron) Holland, Sharon Seay, Angela Seay, David (Richelle) Seay, Michele (Darrell) Smith, Elaine Jenkins, Hillary (Terrance) Myrick, and Haley Reynolds—two nephews-in-love, Pernell Jenkins and Marlon Reynolds, seventeen great-nieces and nephews, two great-great-nephews, one great-great-niece, and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
