She was 81 years old. Born on May 6, 1944, to Petrona Torres, and Elias Cruz in Bolívar, El Salvador where her roots and earliest memories were formed. As a young woman, she made her way to Santa Rosa de Lima, where her life continued to unfold. She also spent two years living in Honduras before her journey brought her to the United States in 1969, settling first in California. Over the years, her path led her back to San Miguel, El Salvador, through San José, Costa Rica, and eventually Houston, Texas, where she built a life far from where she began. Olivia carried the warmth of her homeland in her heart every day of her life.Olivia dedicated her life to two great callings: her family and Jesus Christ our Lord and savior. She was the cornerstone of her household, pouring herself into the care and upbringing of those she loved with devotion and fierce determination. Christian music was the soundtrack of her days, filling her home with hymns and praise that reflected the depth of her faith. Nothing brought her greater joy than gathering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking them to church , planting seeds of faith in the next generation, one Saturday at a time.Those who knew Olivia knew her as a woman of remarkable presence. She carried herself with a polished elegance and believed that every occasion deserved your very best, a conviction she lived out with care and style to her very last days. Her attention to detail was Impeccable, and her love of fashion was not vanity but rather a form of respect: for herself, for others, and for life itself.Among the many traditions Olivia held dear, none was more sacred than the making of tamales during the holidays. Around the kitchen table, generations gathered hands working, stories flowing, laughter rising. This tradition, woven with love and masa and memory, is a living legacy the family will carry forward with pride and gratitude for generations to come.Olivia Cruz is survived by her four beloved children: Luis Rene Cruz, Marilyn Rivas, Yamileth Fuentes, Edwin Torres and wife Allison Torres ; grandchildren Olivia Torres, Steven Torres, Luis Cruz, Laura Cruz, Karen Cruz and husband Fayaz Babul, Genesis Cruz and their mother Lucy Artola. Cindy Valdez Medrano and her husband Bobby Medrano, Sergio Valdez and his wife Estela Valdez, Marilyn Valdez and Frank Rangel, Emely Valdez, and Celeste Hidalgo; great-grandchildren Sergio Valdez III, Nicole Valdez, Sofia Valdez, Chloe Medrano ,Frank Rangel III, Jack Rangel, Reynaldo Villareal III, Luke Villa, and Zoey Villa.
