She passed peacefully at 102 years old surrounded by family at her residence in Hayward, California.Maria Noelia Martins da Rosa was born in Santo Amaro, Faial, Azores, Portugal on December 26, 1923; was raised in Sao Roque, Pico, Azores, Portugal.She married her one and only love Manuel G. Mauricio in Pico, Azores in 1947, they immigrated to California in 1966, settling in Los Banos then moved to Hayward in 1969.She witnessed incredible changes during her life from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, wars, many presidents, invention of television, computers, the Internet, cell phones, Y2K and self driving cars. Her biggest challenge was moving to the U.S. with her husband and three daughters. Not knowing the culture nor the language, Maria Noelia had to learn a new way of life. She worked tirelessly to raise her family, studied hard to learn enough English to become a US citizen as well as get her driver's license- she was very proud to earn 100% on the written exam.Maria Noelia lived a full life as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, homemaker and worker at Hudson Lumber Company.She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, was a highly skilled seamstress, knew how to knit and crochet, enjoyed playing cards, gatherings with family (she made sure to have us capture family photos with all of the family especially the grandchildren) and attending festas in honor of the Holy Ghost . An island girl at heart, she learned to live off the land from her mother and grandfather, loved to fish and developed a passion for gardening.She was the beloved mother of Maria Lucia Simas (Ted), Leonilda Cardoso (Joe) and Idalina Gomes (Duarte), proud grandmother of John Simas (Alicia), Mark Simas, Joelle Machado (Bruno), Raquelle Martins (Joao), Elizabeth Silva (Michael), Mellisa Tavares (Steve), Michelle Morales (Jose) and Michael Gomes, blessed great-grandmother of Johnny Simas, Adrianna Simas, Emily Machado, Brianna Machado, Matthew Machado Anthony Machado, Joao Martins Jr., Simao Martins, Aliciana Martins, Steven Tavares Jr., Carson Tavares, Logan Tavares, Mia Morales, Ava Morales and Baby Silva.Maria Noelia was predeceased in death by her devoted husband Manuel G. Mauricio, grandson Mark Simas, her parents Joe G. Rose and Maria do Rosario Avila Soares, her twin sister Maria do Rosario Pinheiro (Roque), siblings: Idalina Silva (Jose Andre), Manuel Rosa (Rosa) and Jose Rosa (Fatinha), her in-laws: Manuel Jose Mauricio, Silvina Garcia, Antonio Mauricio (Terezinha) and Jose Mauricio (Julia).Most of all, Maria Noelia loved her family and instilled in her daughters strong faith and values that have served them well.
