Maria Guadalupe "Lupe" Palomares

Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Palomares Izaguirre, age 71, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. She was born on August 8, 1954 in Villa Juarez, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Alberto Izaguirre Almazan and Sara Almazan Castillo.

Lupe immigrated to the United States in 1969 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. She worked at the Charleston Candy Factory where she met the love of her life, Jesus H. Palomares. The two shared a loving marriage for 51 years and built a life centered on family, hard work, and deep devotion to one another.

Together they raised three children and in 1985 proudly purchased the family home where countless memories were created. Lupe was known for her warmth, generosity, and nurturing spirit. Many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends who spent time around her quickly began calling her “Mamá,” a reflection of the comfort, love, and care she gave so freely to everyone who entered her home.

Midway through her career, Lupe made the selfless decision to step away from work in order to help raise her grandchildren while their parents worked. Caring for children came naturally to her, and soon extended family and friends trusted her with their children as well. She created joyful routines for the kids that included breakfast, chores, lunch, showers, and afternoon play. The house was often filled with laughter during games of pretend restaurant drive through from the kitchen window to the porch, dance competitions, sing offs, and countless other activities she created to keep the children entertained and loved.

Lupe was also known as an exceptional cook. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, where she prepared beloved dishes such as caldo de res, pozole, and menudo. Whether cooking Mexican or Italian dishes, her meals were unforgettable. Her homemade tortillas de harina were especially famous among family and friends.

She enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and hosting cookouts with family, particularly toward the end of summer when the peaches and pears were ready to be picked. Her favorite flowers were red roses and lilacs. Lupe also loved a good competitive game of loteria, a game she played with skill and enthusiasm.

Lupe remained deeply proud of her roots in Villa Juarez, San Luis Potosi. She loved driving through her hometown and the surrounding areas, enjoying local cuisine, the beautiful landscapes, and the region of La Huasteca Potosina. Visitors were always welcomed with warmth and hospitality that reflected her deep pride in her birthplace.

Lupe was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesus H. Palomares; her parents, Alberto Izaguirre Almazan and Sara Almazan Castillo; and her siblings Luis Izaguirre Almazan, Nicolas (Pedro) Izaguirre Almazan, and Juanita (Tula) Izaguirre Almazan.

She is survived by her children Gerardo (Mari) Palomares, Elida (Jesus) Palomares Vasquez, and Jesse (Lizbeth) Palomares; her cherished grandchildren Xavier Palomares, Yasmin Martinez, Yoselyn Palomares, Gerardo G. Martinez, Xgardo (Cassidy) Palomares, Yarely Palomares, Dulce’Celeste Martinez, Yaire Palomares, Uriel (Victoria) Palomares, Vicente Palomares, and Yesenia Palomares; and her beloved great grandchildren Erick Jr. Gutierrez, Jonathan Palomares, Camila Palomares, and Leandro Gutierrez. She is also survived by her sister Sofia Barron Izaguirre and many loving extended family members and friends.

Lupe’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and devotion to family. Her home was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her heart always ready to care for others. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness and spirit touched everyone who knew her.

She will live forever in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Tezak’s Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL 60435. All guests are invited back to Tezak’s on the morning of Monday, March 23, 2026 at 9:00 am for continued visitation before travelling in procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 205 E. Jackson St. Joliet, IL for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 am. Interment at Municipal Cemetery in Villa Juarez, SLP, MX will take place after funeral services in Mexico.

María Guadalupe “Lupe” Palomares Izaguirre, de 71 años, falleció en paz el 14 de marzo de 2026. Nació el 8 de agosto de 1954 en Villa Juárez, San Luis Potosí, México, hija de Alberto Izaguirre Almazán y Sara Almazán Castillo.

Lupe emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1969 y se estableció en Chicago, Illinois. Trabajó en la fábrica Charleston Candy Factory, donde conoció al amor de su vida, Jesús H. Palomares. Juntos compartieron un matrimonio lleno de amor durante 51 años y construyeron una vida basada en la familia, el trabajo duro y una profunda dedicación el uno al otro.

Juntos criaron a sus tres hijos y en 1985 lograron comprar su hogar familiar, donde se crearon innumerables recuerdos. Lupe era conocida por su calidez, generosidad y espíritu protector. Amigos y amigas de sus hijos y nietos que pasaban tiempo con ella terminaba llamándola “Mamá”, reflejo del cariño, consuelo y amor que ofrecía a todos los que entraban a su casa.

A mitad de su vida laboral, Lupe tomó la decisión desinteresada de dejar su trabajo para ayudar a cuidar y criar a sus nietos mientras sus padres trabajaban. Tenía un talento natural con los niños, y pronto familiares y amigos también confiaban en ella para cuidar a sus hijos. Ella creaba

rutinas llenas de alegría para los niños que incluían desayuno, quehaceres, comida, baño y juegos por la tarde. La casa siempre estaba llena de risas con juegos como el restaurante de autoservicio desde la ventana de la cocina hacia el porche, concursos de baile, competencias de canto y muchas otras actividades que ella inventaba para entretener y hacer felices a los niños.

Lupe también era conocida por ser una cocinera excepcional. Su cocina era el corazón del hogar, donde preparaba platillos muy queridos como caldo de res, pozole y menudo. No había nada que no pudiera cocinar, desde comida mexicana hasta italiana, y sus platillos siempre dejaban a todos hablando de lo deliciosos que eran. Sus tortillas de harina hechas a mano eran especialmente famosas entre familiares y amigos.

Antes del fallecimiento de su esposo en 2024, disfrutaba mucho pasar tiempo al aire libre, cuidar su jardín y hacer carnes asadas con la familia, especialmente al final del verano cuando los duraznos y las peras estaban listos para cosechar. Sus flores favoritas eran las rosas rojas y las lilas.

También disfrutaba mucho un buen juego competitivo de lotería. Había que tener cuidado porque era muy buena jugando.

Lupe siempre se sintió profundamente orgullosa de su lugar de nacimiento en Villa Juárez, San Luis Potosí. Le encantaba recorrer su pueblo y los alrededores, disfrutando de la comida local, los hermosos paisajes y la región de la Huasteca Potosina. A cualquier visitante nuevo siempre lo recibía con la mejor hospitalidad.

Lupe fue precedida en muerte por su querido esposo, Jesús H. Palomares; sus padres, Alberto Izaguirre Almazán y Sara Almazán Castillo; y sus hermanos Luis Izaguirre Almazán, Nicolás (Pedro) Izaguirre Almazán y Juanita (Tula) Izaguirre Almazán.

Le sobreviven sus hijos Gerardo (Mari) Palomares, Elida (Jesús) Palomares Vasquez y Jesse (Lizbeth) Palomares; sus queridos nietos Xavier Palomares, Yasmin Martínez, Yoselyn Palomares, Gerardo G. Martínez, Xgardo (Cassidy) Palomares, Yarely Palomares, Dulce’Celeste Martínez, Yaire Palomares, Uriel (Victoria) Palomares, Vicente Palomares y Yesenia Palomares; sus bisnietos Erick Jr. Gutiérrez, Jonathan Palomares, Camila Palomares y Leandro Gutiérrez; su hermana Sofía Barrón Izaguirre; y muchos otros familiares y amigos que la quisieron profundamente.

El legado de Lupe es uno de amor, generosidad y dedicación a la familia. Su hogar siempre estuvo abierto, su cocina siempre llena de vida y su corazón siempre dispuesto a cuidar de los demás. Será recordada como una madre, abuela, bisabuela, hermana y amiga amorosa cuya bondad tocó la vida de todos los que la conocieron.

Su recuerdo vivirá para siempre en nuestros corazones.

Se celebrará una Visita de Celebración de Vida el Domingo 22 de Marzo de 2026 de 2:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. en Tezak's Home to Celebrate Life, 1211 Plainfield Rd. Joliet, IL 60435. Todos los invitados están invitados a regresar a Tezak's la mañana del Lunes 23 de Marzo de 2026 a las 9:00 a.m. para continuar la visita antes de viajar en procesión a la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo, 205 E. Jackson St. Joliet, IL, para una Misa que se celebrará a las 11:00 a.m. El entierro en el Cementerio Municipal de Villa Juárez, SLP, MX tendrá lugar tras los servicios funerarios en México.
