Maria Gonzales, born on January 1, 1946, in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, to Hector and Lilia Campos, passed away on March 8, 2026, at the age of 80.
She served her community as a dedicated member of the Brownfield City Council, working tirelessly to improve local conditions and advocate for residents’ needs. Maria also taught as a substitute in the Brownfield Independent School District, where her warmth and encouragement left a lasting impression on generations of children.
An avid gardener, she found deep satisfaction in tending her plants and nurturing growth in all things. She cherished peaceful escapes to the mountains of Colorado for camping, and she expressed her love through the many handmade crocheted gifts she created for family and friends.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Hector and Lilia Campos, and her brother, Hector Campos Jr. She is survived by her husband, Geronimo Gonzales Jr.; her children, Javier Gonzales (Julie), Teresa Garcia (Pete), Victoria Campos (Cuatemoc), and Gerry Gonzales; her grandchildren, Brittnie Gonzales, Tony Gonzales, Victoria Gonzales, Marcos Garcia, Lorena Garcia, Olivia Villapando, Adrian Villalpando, and Allianna Villalpando; her great-grandchildren, Leighton, Paislee, Scarlett, Emilia, Aurora, and Kehlani; and her siblings, Mina Ritz, Sergio Campos (Margarita), Juanita Villarreal (Hector), Ricardo Campos (Ninfa), and Roberto Campos (Irene).
