Maria "Alcina" Borges, 94, passed away on March 10, 2026, at her summer home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on December 3, 1931, in São Miguel, Portugal, to the late Antonio Pimentel and Clara Pimentel, Alcina grew up in the Azores. There she met the love of her life, Mario, and together they immigrated to the United States in 1964.
Gentle, kind, and caring, Alcina had a heart of gold. She cherished time with her family, reminiscing about her life in Portugal and sharing stories from her years in the United States. She had a special warmth for animals of all kinds and could often be found in the yard, breaking bread for the birds and feeding the rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks. Above all, she devoted herself to caring for her family. She spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing beloved Portuguese meals, and anyone who entered her home was greeted with open arms and generous hospitality.
Alcina is survived by her husband Mario Borges, her son Donald Borges and his wife Elizabeth Borges, her grandchildren Crystal Borges and her husband Zacc Lacasse, Alesha Borges and her significant other Ben Archibald, and her great-grandchildren Gavin Lacasse, Dominic Lacasse, and Baylaa Alcina. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Joao Pimentel, Gilberto Pimentel, and Jose Pimentel.
