Maria B. Schmid

Maria B. (Wulle) Schmid, 105, of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

Born in Nehren, Germany on November 9, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Emma Wulle. She arrived in the United States with her family in 1929, first settling in Nashville, Tennessee before moving to New York. Maria worked for many years at Phoebe Floral in Allentown and was a longtime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allentown.

She was a passionate gardener who took great pleasure in growing fresh vegetables and tending to her indoor and outdoor plants. Maria found joy in caring for her home and spending time in her kitchen, especially baking cookies. When asked about the secret to her long life, she credited eating healthy and staying active. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by her family, caring neighbors, and friends.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Gloria E. Schmid of Hanover, Massachusetts; granddaughter, Shannon M. Hignite of Garner, North Carolina; and nieces, Carol Edelstein of Ridge, New York and Helen Nordvall of Trumbull, Connecticut. She was predeceased by her son, Richard P. Schmid; daughter, Barbara M. Schmid; granddaughter, Jennifer “Jenny” M. Hignite; and brother, Kurt Wulle.
