Margaret Ruth Bernardi Farkas

August 11, 1926 March 14, 2026

Beaver, PA

Margaret Ruth Bernardi Farkas, age 99, of Beaver, Pennsylvania, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by her children. The daughter of Joseph and Margaret Bernardi, she was born in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, on August 11, 1926. Margaret graduated from New Brighton High School in 1944. She met the love of her life, Abe, in 1945 at the Beaver Supermarket where she worked. A co-worker pointed out their new boss, and when asked what she thought, Margaret replied, “Not bad!” They had a date by the end of the week and were married in May 1946. Their loving marriage lasted more than 59 years and was blessed with six children.

Margaret was a loving and giving wife, daughter, mother, friend, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A remarkably creative woman, she painted in oils and watercolors, practiced silk screening and photography, and collaborated with an architect to design the beautiful mid-century modern home she cherished. An avid bridge player, she continued to enjoy the game until the previous year. While raising her children, she remained active in the Agudath Achim congregation in Chippewa and devoted many hours to volunteer work with the Agudath Achim Sisterhood, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Beaver County Geriatric Center, and as a board member of the former Beaver County Children’s Home.

Margaret had a deep love for travel and nature. She and Abe journeyed extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Australia, and many Caribbean islands. After Abe’s passing, she fulfilled a long-held dream by traveling to the Galapagos with her family.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Abe, and her son, Richard. She is survived by her children Randi Farkas (Eric Snyder), Karen Farkas (Clyde Hurtig), Joseph David, Deborah Farkas (Mary Faria), and Amy Farkas; her grandchildren Joseph, Felice, Julia, and Neil; and her great-grandchildren Julian, Simone, Theo, Isla, Darrow, and Sylvan. She will also be greatly missed by her nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
