Margaret Boyd ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell-Davis Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. - Main Office on Mar. 16, 2026.Margaret M. Boyd, age 78, of Plymouth, MA, and a long-time resident of her beloved Dorchester, MA, passed away on March 12 at South Shore Hospital after a long period of declining health. Her passing was quiet and peaceful, in the company of family.Born and raised in Dorchester, Margaret attended St. Mark School and graduated from Mt. Alvernia Academy in Newton, MA, in 1965. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Emmanuel College, graduating in 1969. She later earned her Master of Social Work degree at Boston College Graduate School of Social Work.Margaret enjoyed a long career in human services in a variety of private and public agencies. After college, she was a child care worker and supervisor at Walker Home and School in Needham, MA., where she met her future husband, Kevin Kennedy. Later, she served as a Clinical Social Worker at several private and public programs, including The Bennett North River Collaborative, VINFEN's Bennett School, and public schools in Milton, MA, and Millis, MA. Margaret's service to her numerous child, adolescent and family clients was exemplified by selfless attention to their needs and a refined ability to relate in an authentic manner to persons with wide ranging mental health and special educational needs. In her more active years, Margaret enjoyed both skiing and golfing in a women's group, and in later years was an avid gardener and was proud of daily four-mile walks and strolls with Nathan and with dogs Jessie, Rusty and Traveler at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester. She loved politics and thrived discussing current events.Margaret leaves a host of family members who loved her very much and who are relieved she is now free of the suffering she endured for many months. They treasure the many years they enjoyed her plain spoken, spontaneous, personality and sometimes irreverent humor, her funny ways and her interest in the circumstances of their lives.
