Margaret Lee
May 25, 1933— March 9, 2026
Washington, IL
Margaret "Margie" Lee, 92, of Washington, passed away on March 9, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 25, 1933, in Bloomington, Illinois, to the late John and Margaret (Harder) Carbery, Margie graduated from Trinity High School. She married Keith Lee on August 11, 1951, at St. Bernard’s Church in Peoria. Keith preceded her in death, as did three siblings, her granddaughter Chandra, and son-in-law Dan Piper.
Margie was a devoted mother to her seven children and a cherished Grandma Margie to her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She had a special love for babies and delighted in hosting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren each year for Christmas baking. A longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, she was a charter member of the Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernians and performed with the Singing Nuns. She remained an enthusiastic Cubs and Illinois basketball fan, often offering spirited coaching advice to the television. Known for her warm smile, effortless hospitality, and signature goofy wave from the front door as guests departed, Margie left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children Kathy (Larry) Holcombe of Asheville, North Carolina, Jackie Piper of Galesburg, Jerry (Shelia) Lee of Washington, Janet (Stan) Osborne of Gulfport, Florida, Brian (Kandi) Lee of Pekin, Glenn (Lisa) Lee of East Peoria, and Joe (Kathy) Lee of Washington; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
