Margaret D "Peggy" Gray

1945 — 2026

Medfield, MA

Margaret Mary Dailey Gray, known affectionately as Peggy, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 1, 1945, to Matthew and Lillian Dailey, she attended parochial school through eighth grade and graduated from Braintree High School in 1963. She went on to graduate from St. Elizabeth Hospital Nursing School in 1966 and began her career at the newly opened Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton, later known as Good Samaritan, as well as at Choate Hospital in Woburn and with an orthopedic surgeon.

After many years in nursing, Peggy chose to devote herself fully to her family as a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She continued her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Textiles, summa cum laude, from Framingham State College in 1989. She later worked as a pattern grader for Demitry’s M & G for thirteen years. Throughout her life, her greatest focus remained her family; she took pride in preparing home-cooked meals and supporting her daughters at school and athletic events.

A talented seamstress and knitter, Peggy found joy in volunteering and helping others. She spent many years knitting items for those in need, stocking shelves at the Medfield Food Cupboard, and volunteering at the Norfolk Library. She also cherished travel, including a memorable cross-country journey in her red Volkswagen Beetle with a cousin in 1968, several Viking River Cruises through Europe with her husband George, and a 1,500-mile drive from Santiago, Chile, to the southern tip of the country. Peggy loved to cook, read, play Mahjong and Rummikub, complete the Boston Sunday Globe crossword puzzle in pen within hours, and trace her family tree.

Predeceased by her sister Patricia in September 2025, Peggy is survived by her husband of 54 years, George, her daughters Catherine Reynolds (Jasper) and Ellen Wasson (Brad), her five grandchildren, William, Thomas, Jon, Elizabeth, and Samuel, and many extended family members and friends who will remember her with great affection.
