Margaret Crawford ObituaryPublished by Legacy on Mar. 6, 2026.Margaret "Peggy" Slinkman CrawfordJuly 26, 1948 – March 4, 2026Margaret "Peggy" Slinkman Crawford, 77, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, after facing cancer with the same quiet courage and fierce spirit that defined her throughout her life.Born on July 26, 1948, Peggy was raised by her parents, the late Carl and Joyce Ruth Cowan, who helped shape the strong, loving woman she became. She was a proud graduate of DuVal Senior High School in Lanham, Maryland, where she developed many lifelong friendships and carried fond memories of those years with her always. It was there she also found her true love, George Jerome "Jerry" Slinkman, in with whom she built a life and started a family. When Jerry was transferred to Virginia with his job, the young family made the leap together - trading city life for country living and embracing it wholeheartedly. Ever determined, Peggy established her own electrology business in 1976, building a thriving practice while raising her three children alongside the love of her life. Tragically, Jerry passed away at just thirty-five years old after a courageous battle with lung cancer. With the quiet strength she was known for, Peggy carried on, raising her family and growing her business and later finding love again with her second husband, James Luther Crawford, Sr., with whom she built her dream home in Palmyra, Virginia.Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Joyce Cowan, her first husband George Jerome "Jerry" Slinkman, her second husband James Luther Crawford Sr.; her brother, George Marshall Cowan; her son-in-law, Noel Anthony Kerwick; and her beloved canine companions, Shadow and Rocky, who brought her great joy.The heart of Peggy's life was her family and the remarkable circle of people she gathered around her. She had a gift for friendship - nurturing lifelong bonds while welcoming new friends with the same genuine warmth and open door. She is lovingly survived by her children: J Kimberly Feight (William) of Midlothian, VA; Carrie Ann Slinkman-Kerwick of Palmyra, VA; and George Jerome "Jerry" Slinkman, II (Vicki) of Keswick, VA. She adored her grandchildren - Margaret "Maggie" Gary-Slinkman, Tyler Bianco (Nicholas), and Taylor, Hunter, Charlotte, and Parker Slinkman, and took immense pride in being great-grandmother to Harrison and Raegan Bianco. She is also survived by her brother Michael Dow and her sister, Catherine "Cathie" Camp, and many beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.Peggy will be remembered as a woman of remarkable strength and generosity, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a woman who faced every challenge - including her last - with grace, grit, and an open heart. Her strength and legacy live on in the family she cherished, the friends who loved her, and the many lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Peggy's memory to Hospice of the Piedmont, Caring for Creatures or the SPCA of Fluvanna County, or a charity that holds special meaning to you.A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Charlottesville First Church of the Nazarene, 3056 Louisa Road, Keswick, VA 22947.
