Margaret Anne "Spafford" Morandi

1943 — 2026

Cheshire, MA

Margaret Anne Morandi, 82, of Cheshire, Massachusetts, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Williamstown Commons. Born on October 28, 1943, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Calvin Preston Spafford and Alma Thornton Spafford. She graduated from South Hadley High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from North Adams State College.

Margaret began her teaching career in the North Adams Public Schools before becoming a fourth-grade teacher at Cheshire Elementary School, where she taught until her retirement. Former students remembered her fondly as their favorite teacher. A longtime member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church, she was also a gifted pianist who played for family gatherings during holidays. Margaret was an accomplished artist who created paintings, drawings, and works in other media. She was skilled in quilting and various arts and crafts, and she lovingly made and donated handmade teddy bears to hospitalized children.

Above all, Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Morandi Jr., whom she married on June 26, 1965; her sons, Peter Morandi and his fiancée, Stacie Vigiard of Adams, Massachusetts, and Steven Morandi and his wife, Rachel Lapidus of Campbell, California; and her four grandchildren, Kayla, Sarah, Oliver, and Fiona Morandi. She also leaves her sister, Andrea Hart and her husband, William R. Hart Jr. of Little Elm, Texas; her brother, Earle Spafford and his wife, Janet Spafford of Marlborough, New Hampshire; her nieces and nephews, Dennis, Eric, Jodi, Kristen, Douglas, Denise, Marcus, and Deborah; and her sister-in-law, Joan Morandi.
