Margaret Anne Hain Beers

October 20, 1939 March 10, 2026

Selma, AL

Margaret Anne Hain Beers passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on October 20, 1939, to the late Edward Moore Hain and Margaret McKinnon, she was raised in Selma after her father’s early death when she was four. Her mother later married Charles Woodrow “Charlie” Himes, who helped raise her with love and care.

Margaret Anne devoted herself fully to her husband, Benjamin Franklin Beers, Jr., and their children, bringing grace, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her role as wife and mother. She briefly sold antiques, where her keen eye for beauty and her vibrant personality found joyful expression. She cherished her longtime friendship with Kathleen Moore and held a special affection for her time spent in Orange Beach, Alabama, where she delighted in the ocean, fresh seafood, and the simple pleasures of beach life. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime member of Church Street Methodist Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Shiloh Baptist Church.

She graduated from A.G. Parrish High School in 1957 and attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Margaret Anne had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel loved and valued. Known affectionately as “The Queen of Sardis,” she greeted friends and strangers alike with captivating stories, hearty laughter, and genuine interest. In later years she found great pleasure in gardening and in the everyday interactions that came from time spent near Winn-Dixie, where she happily conversed with everyone who passed by. She had a flair for style and a playful spirit that led her to give nearly everyone she loved a special nickname, a sign that they held a cherished place in her heart.

She is survived by her sons, Val Hain (Deeann) Beers, Benjamin Franklin (Dawn) Beers, III, and Edward Moore Hain Beers; her daughter, Leah Beers (Chris) Abele; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Quintilla Beers Wood and Kate Himes; nieces and nephews; and many special caregivers and friends who were dear to her throughout the years. Margaret Anne made each of her children and grandchildren feel uniquely cherished, often assuring them that they were her favorite. Her warmth, generosity, and joyful spirit remain a lasting gift to all who knew and loved her.
