Margaret Ann Brannstrom
December 29, 1954— March 7, 2026
St. Ignace, MI
Margaret "Maggie" Ann (Oberle) Brannstrom, age 71, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed away on March 7, 2026, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Born on December 29, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, to Daniel Sr. and Vivian (Andress) Oberle, Maggie was one of nine children. In 1968, she moved with her family to the Upper Peninsula and graduated from Rudyard High School in 1973. She went on to earn an associate degree in data processing and a bachelor's degree in accounting from Lake Superior State College in 1985.
Maggie built a long and dedicated career, first with the State of Michigan Insurance Bureau and later with the Michigan Department of Corrections, where she retired after many years of service. She was widely respected as a hard worker who approached every task with diligence and care. A member of the Moose Lodge in St. Ignace, she found great joy in simple pleasures—spending time with friends and family, cheering on the Detroit Tigers, visiting the casino, and sailing on cruise ships. Above all, she cherished the laughter and lasting memories created with those she loved.
Maggie is survived by her son, Jason Oberle of Sault Ste. Marie; granddaughter, Alyssa VerWiebe of Aspen, Colorado; brothers Richard LaDuke of Clinton Township, Daniel "Dan" Oberle Jr. of Carson City, and William "Bill" Oberle of Beaverton; and sister Linda Oberle of Abilene, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Sr. and Vivian; brothers Jerry LaDuke and Erland LaDuke; and sisters Bonita (LaDuke) Pyzik and Brenda (LaDuke) Smerecki.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2026.
