Marcia Adams ObituaryVisit the Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service - Iowa City website to view the full obituary.Marcia Lee Adams, 89, of Iowa City, passed away on March 6, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics with family by her side.Marcia was born November 30, 1936, in Pender, NE, the second daughter of four of George and Caroline Mathilda Sophie (Koopman) Witmer. She grew up in Wayne, NE where she graduated from Wayne High School in 1954. She attended Wayne State Teacher College and began her teaching career at the age of 17 in rural schools in Wayne County. She would later receive her master's degree from the University of Iowa.She married Darcell Adams on November 11, 1960. They lived in Council Bluffs, IA where they both taught, later in 1967 moving the family to Iowa City where she continued teaching at Mark Twain, Horace Mann and Hoover Elementary Schools. She retired from teaching in 2000.She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City, the International Reading Association, the National Education Association and the Iowa State Education Association and Hoover Alums.Marcia loved sewing handmade items, reading fiction books, visiting with friends, listening to music, and attending family events, especially those involving her grandchildren. She also loved nature, particularly gardening and planting flowers.Marcia is survived by her husband Darcell, daughters Michele Krstenansky (John) of Redlands, CA and Melanie Gibbens (Martin) of Iowa City; grandchildren Nicolai Gibbens (Stephanie) Gabriel Gibbens, Siobhan Gibbens, Francesca Krstenansky and Stefan Krstenansky and sister Penny Urwiler (Rick). She is also survived by numerous extended family, friends and colleagues.She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Pat Gamble and Sandra Schulz.A memorial service will be held at 12:30 on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City with a luncheon to follow. The family will greet guests at the church prior to the service from 11-12:30. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
