Marcella Hansel

1940 — 2026

Marcy Hansel, a lifelong resident of the Akron, Ohio area and a dedicated teacher for 30 years in the Akron Public Schools, passed peacefully on March 13 at The Village of St. Edward in Wadsworth.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gary Hansel; her daughters, Dr. Cindy (Brian Blunt) Hansel and Victoria (Sean) Grady; her grandchildren, Devon, Walden, and Rowan Grady, and Connor and Kai Blunt; her sister, Annette Marcinkoski; and her brother, Frank (Martha) Marcinkoski. She will be deeply missed by her in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, former co-workers, and many friends.

A valedictorian of Garfield High School in the class of 1958, Marcy earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Akron, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. During her time at the university, she was chosen as a Community Ambassador to Brazil and lived with a family in São Paulo, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for travel. She visited six continents, dozens of countries, and most of the United States. Marcy was an avid baker, golfer, and bridge player, and remained a committed member of The Christ Child Society of Akron.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Barbara Marcinkoski, and her sister, Irene (Jim) Hammontree.
