Mae Benjamin August, born January 26, 1935, in Corinth, Mississippi, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 91, surrounded by family and friends. Beloved in the Sheffield community, Mae was remembered for her deep faith, kindness, and lifelong spirit of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward George August, Sr.; her parents, Walter and Garnett Benjamin; her brothers, Clarence Benjamin and Milton Benjamin; and her sister, Sandra Tyson.

Mae is survived by her children, Edward George August, Jr. of Sheffield, Alabama; Benjamin Alan August and his wife Tammy of Killen, Alabama; and Russell Andrew August and his wife Jackie of Navarre Beach, Florida. She is also survived by her brother, Dexter Benjamin and his wife JoAnn of Corinth, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Anna Kate Trzaskoma and her husband Josh, Ben August and his wife Nena, and Zoe August; and five great-grandchildren.

For many years, Mae owned and operated The Hair Port in downtown Sheffield, where she styled hair, mentored others, and created a warm gathering place filled with laughter and friendship. A gifted cook, she delighted family, friends, and neighbors with her famous fried pies and caramel cakes, often hosting joyful gatherings in her kitchen. Her faith was the center of her life, and she found deep joy in worship and fellowship with her church family at York Bluff Baptist Church. Mae will be remembered for her sweet spirit, her generosity, and the many lives she touched through her kindness and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
