August 6, 1938— March 13, 2026
Hillside, NJ
Madeline Stiles was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. Forty years ago, she moved to Hillside, New Jersey, where she would spend the rest of her life.
Her strong work ethic was evident from an early age. In the 1960s, she began her working life as a switchboard operator for New Jersey Bell, manually connecting calls at a large board filled with cords and lights. This role demanded patience, focus, and quick thinking, giving her an early foundation in responsibility and attention to detail. She later spent more than thirty years at a glass manufacturing plant, advancing to the role of shift supervisor. In the heat and constant activity of the factory, she managed production, led her team, solved problems as they arose, and earned the respect of her coworkers through her fairness, reliability, and willingness to step in wherever needed. Though she never graduated high school, Madeline worked steadily to support her sisters before raising her own family, demonstrating a quiet determination that defined her life.
After retiring, she embraced a well-earned time of peace and simple pleasures. She found great joy in gardening, tending her flowers and plants with care in her backyard. Nearby, her pool offered a place to swim or relax in the sun on warm days. She loved cooking for her family, filling her kitchen with the aromas of home-cooked meals and creating lasting memories around the table. Madeline also enjoyed traveling, particularly her trips to Mexico, which allowed her to experience new places and cultures. She remained active in her community, volunteering at the local senior citizen center and offering help to neighbors whenever it was needed. Above all, she devoted herself to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, sharing her time, wisdom, and affection generously.
At home, she was lovingly accompanied by her dogs, Elvis and Lucy, who were cherished members of the family. Madeline’s life was one of dedication, kindness, and quiet strength. She found happiness in tending her garden, gathering her loved ones, and caring for those around her. Her family will always remember the warmth and generosity she brought to every part of her days.
