Madaline Wagner

Madaline I. Wagner, 96, of Gray, Maine, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Marshwoods Nursing Home in Lewiston.

Born on January 14, 1930, in Windham, Maine, Madaline grew up in Limerick with her parents, Carle and Jennie Ilsley, and her two sisters, Marguerite and Avis. She graduated from Limerick High School. She first married Myles Burbank and together they raised two children, Myles Jr. and Brenda, on her parents’ farm in Limerick. After Myles’s passing, she married Robert Wagner, who brought three daughters into the family: Diane, Barbara, and Gail. Madaline and Robert later moved to Gray, where they welcomed two more children, Dana and Karen, and lovingly cared for their large blended family.

While living in Gray, Madaline became a cherished member of the Gray Congregational Church and served for forty years in the Gray-New Gloucester school system, where she found deep purpose in nurturing children through nourishing meals. After Robert’s passing, she continued working until retiring at age 82. In retirement, she lived for eight years with her daughter Karen, devoting herself fully to her family.

Madaline was a devoted matriarch who kept her extended family connected through her warmth, strength, and quiet devotion. She found joy in experimenting in the kitchen, especially with sweet treats, taking walks in the fresh air, knitting, reading, and celebrating the milestones of those she loved. She leaves behind a vibrant family legacy built on love and care.

She was predeceased by her parents, Carle and Jennie Ilsley; sisters Marguerite Hayes and Avis Spear; first husband Myles Burbank Sr.; second husband Robert Wagner; son Myles S. Burbank Jr.; and daughter Brenda L. Burbank.

She is survived by her son Dana S. Wagner of Poland and daughter Karen L. Footer of Auburn; stepdaughters Gail Cloutier of Saco, Barbara Curiddi of Buxton, and Diane Spring of Worcester, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Jancy Hanscom, Ben Burbank, Billy Burbank, Kyle Given, Brandon Footer, Ashleigh Jurdak-Roy, and Hannah Knowlton; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Hanscom, Brianna Burbank, Myles Burbank, and Luca Jurdak-Roy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
