Mabel Horst Eshleman, age 96, of Landisville, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 13, 2026.
Born in Bareville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Ella Sensenig Horst. She was married to D. Rohrer Eshleman for 71 years.
Mabel graduated from Lancaster Mennonite School and Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. She served for 15 years under the Eastern Mennonite Mission Board in Ethiopia and became the first woman to serve on the board of Eastern Mennonite Missions. She also served on the board of Good Enterprises and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for more than 40 years. A longtime member of Landisville Mennonite Church, she found deep fulfillment in her faith, service, and family.
She is survived by her children, Keith (Susan Weaver) Eshleman of Landisville, Pennsylvania, Leanne (Steve) Benner of Beaverton, Oregon, Louise (Howard) Yoder of London, Ohio, and Rodney (Cindy Herr) Eshleman of Harrisonburg, Virginia; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norlene (Jake) Hess of Harrisonburg, Virginia; and a foster daughter, Itaferu (Dr. Solomon Hailemariam) Tamerat of Ethiopia. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen White, Mildred Horst, and Elaine Horst, and her brother Linford Horst.
Mabel enjoyed traveling, reading, making quilts, and growing plants and flowers. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.
