Born and raised in Free Union, Mabel was the daughter of the late Willie F. and Mabel A. Via.Mabel is the last of her siblings, the late Veluvian A. Via, Willie B. Via, Emmett F. Via, Frances E. Wood, Mary Susan Lentz, Margaret L. Nicholson, and Lavert A. Via. She often shared stories about her family and missed her siblings tremendously in recent years. She is survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.She was no stranger to hard work, serving as a relief operator at Comdial for more than 40 years. She was a long-time resident of Barracks West apartments and helped with shoveling snow or sweeping walks. She took great pride in her home and hometown area.Mabel was so giving and appreciated her close friends as if they were family. She touched so many lives and will greatly be missed. She was a lover of classic country and bluegrass music, especially Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson and local Virginia Ramblers. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling and going to concerts with her sisters and friends.A special thank you to the staff at The Renaissance in Stanardsville for their devoted care of Mabel in her late life. Mabel quickly became known as their "sassy" resident bringing lots of love and laughs.A graveside service will be held at Wesley Chapel Church Cemetery at 5210 Wesley Chapel Road, Free Union, VA 22940, on March 20, 2026 at 11 a.m.Place the Full Obituary in Any NewspaperThis is just an online death notice.
