Born in Puerto Rico on May 6, 1937, Lydia lived a life marked by grace, creativity, faith, and devotion to others.Lydia worked for the Florida Department of Education ESOL program where she taught English to Spanish- and Creole-speaking children. Lydia was beloved by her supervisors, colleagues, students and friends within the School Board of St. Lucie County, where she faithfully served until her retirement in 2004. Throughout her career, she received numerous certificates of appreciation recognizing her dedication and impact.A Creative and Artistic SpiritLydia was gifted with remarkable artistic talent across many mediums. She studied fashion design in New York City in 1962 and worked as a fashion designer in Puerto Rico, before marrying and moving to Florida. She continued sewing beautifully into her 70s, creating countless exquisite garments, including wedding dresses, bridal wear for family, historic costumes, and performance attire for both belly dance and flamenco.Her creativity also flourished through drawing, painting, and interior design. During her years as a stay-at-home mom, she painted dozens of acrylic works and created beautiful drawings that reflected her refined artistic eye and love of beauty.Music and DanceLydia loved music and dance. She played the piano from a young age, bringing to life classical pieces such as the Moonlight Sonata. In midlife she discovered the art of belly dance, and in her later years she embraced flamenco with particular joy and devotion. She also shared her gifts in service to the church community, helping create Christmas programs where she performed, designed angel costumes, and lovingly coordinated dances for the children. At family celebrations and weddings, she was always ready to dance, bringing laughter, rhythm, and light wherever music was playing.Her SpiritLydia was known by her family and friends as a woman llena de vida (full of life) whose presence was unforgettable. She was loving, joyful, spirited, and independent - a woman ahead of her time. Intelligent, witty, and full of unmistakable pizzazz, she loved people and loved to learn. She carried herself with a sense of style that was both classic and uniquely her own, admired for her beauty, intelligence, and natural charisma.Devotion and LegacyA devout Catholic, Lydia loved life, nature, and all of God's creatures. She was a devoted friend and mother, a humanitarian at heart, and a woman whose warmth touched everyone she encountered. Nacida el 6 de mayo de 1937 en San Juan, Puerto Rico, Lydia vivió una vida llena de gracia, creatividad, fe y entrega a los demás.Obtuvo su Bachillerato en Humanidades de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1961 y más adelante completó su certificación en Educación en 1986. En 1987 comenzó a enseñar inglés a niños de habla hispana y creole a través del programa ESOL del Departamento de Educación de Florida. Lydia fue muy querida por sus supervisores, colegas y amistades dentro del Distrito Escolar del Condado de St. Lucie, donde sirvió con dedicación hasta su retiro en 2004. A lo largo de su carrera recibió numerosos reconocimientos por su compromiso y su valiosa labor. Un espíritu creativo y artísticoLydia poseía un talento artístico extraordinario en múltiples disciplinas. Estudió diseño de modas en la Escuela Traphagen de Nueva York en 1962 y trabajó como diseñadora de modas en Puerto Rico. Continuó cosiendo hermosas piezas hasta bien entrados sus 70 años, creando innumerables prendas exquisitas, entre ellas vestidos de novia, atuendos nupciales para la familia, vestuarios históricos y trajes de presentación tanto para danza del vientre como para flamenco.Su creatividad también floreció en el dibujo, la pintura y el diseño de interiores. Durante sus años como madre dedicada al hogar a principios de la década de 1980, pintó decenas de obras en acrílico y realizó hermosos dibujos que reflejaban su fino sentido artístico y su amor por la belleza. Música y danzaLydia amaba profundamente la música y la danza. Tocaba el piano desde muy joven, dando vida a piezas clásicas como la Sonata Claro de Luna. En su madurez descubrió el arte de la danza del vientre, y en sus años posteriores abrazó el flamenco con especial alegría y entrega. También puso sus talentos al servicio de su comunidad parroquial, colaborando en la creación de programas navideños donde participaba, confeccionaba disfraces de ángeles y coordinaba con cariño las danzas de los niños. En celebraciones familiares y bodas, siempre estaba lista para bailar, llevando alegría, ritmo y luz dondequiera que sonara la música. Su esenciaLydia era conocida por su familia y amigos como una mujer llena de vida cuya presencia era inolvidable. Era amorosa, alegre, llena de espíritu e independiente - una mujer adelantada a su tiempo. Inteligente, ocurrente y con un carisma inconfundible, amaba a la gente y disfrutaba aprender cosas nuevas. Se distinguía por un sentido del estilo que era a la vez clásico y muy suyo, admirada por su belleza, inteligencia y carisma natural.
